Apple Prepares Major Software Updates

Apple, the tech giant, is developing its largest software updates in years for iPhones, iPads, and Mac computers. The firm will demonstrate these new operating systems—iOS 19, iPadOS 19, and macOS 16—at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June. Following the event, the upgrades will go on sale later this year, in 2024.

As Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman describes, the updates will be the most radical redesign of Apple’s software in more than a decade. The new features, dubbed “Luck” for iPadOS 19 and “Cheer” for macOS 16, will transform everything from app icons and menus to system windows and the overall appearance of the software. Even Apple’s own applications, such as Messages and Photos, will receive new designs.

Gurman asserts that iOS 19 is going to be the most significant iPhone release after iOS 13 in 2013, when dark mode and new privacy features were launched. Likewise, macOS 16 has been reported as the largest Mac redesign since Big Sur back in 2020, when there was a revamped interface modeled from iPhones.

These updates won’t have to wait too long, however. Apple is likely to introduce the preview features during its WWDC in June, where developers are provided early access to beta testing of the software. These will become available to everyone later in the month of September or October, around the time that new iPhones and other products arrive.

With these refinements, Apple hopes to make software on iPhones, iPads, and Macs cleaner, more intelligent, and more visually coherent. Its fans can soon expect a newer, sleeker experience later this year!
