NASA and SpaceX have launched two missions into space concurrently in history. The rockets departed from California’s Vandenberg Space Force Base following the outsmarting of poor weather conditions and a technical issue that was responsible for the delays.
The new SPHEREx space telescope from NASA will map the sky close to Earth’s poles in two years. SpaceX’s PUNCH mission, however, will utilize four small satellites to monitor the outer atmosphere of the Sun.

The missions were launched on SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket. Strong winds and a problem with one of NASA’s spacecraft did slow down the initial launch time, though.
The partnership marks a major turning point insofar as it’s the first such time that NASA and SpaceX are teaming up to launch two missions into space simultaneously.
